In Rome, the Le Sibille atelier is the only artisan in the city who passes on the ancient goldsmith technique of Roman Minute Mosaic through the creation of unique jewels that interpret the glories of the Grand Tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Prati<\/strong> district, the atelier laboratory of Le Sibille is a Wunderkammer<\/strong> where some of the most beautiful and original jewels in the world are born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atelier was founded in 1990<\/strong> from the dream of Camilla Bronzini<\/strong>, Francesca Neri Serneri <\/strong>and Antonella<\/strong> Perugini<\/strong> \u2013 the Sibille precisely (Roman mythological figures able to predict the future) \u2013 united by their passion for the goldsmith art of the past and in particular for the micromosaic technique, an artisanal and religious tradition handed down by the Vatican<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Also known as Minute-style Thread Mosaic<\/strong>, micromosaic is a mosaic technique developed in Rome in the second half of the eighteenth century <\/strong>within the Vatican Mosaic Studio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its success at the time is due to neoclassical<\/strong> culture<\/strong>, particularly loved by European society linked to the phenomenon of the Grand Tour<\/strong>, which favored the demand for precious works inspired by the ancient, as well as the drive for innovation impressed on the Vatican Mosaic Studio during the period in which Rome was under French domination (1809-1814, Napoleon was a huge fan!).<\/p>\n\n\n

Thus began to emerge in Rome mosaic workshops<\/strong> where brooches, bracelets and necklaces were covered with microscopic tiles in multicolored enamels depicting Roman views, flowers, animals, characters and scenes from myth or ancient paintings, a tradition carried forward with a contemporary and international spirit by Le Sibille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renovated in 2018<\/strong>, the atelier hosts the showroom<\/strong> and the laboratory<\/strong> where the jewels come to life. The design begins with a pencil sketch by Francesca Neri Serneri, the creative director.<\/p>\n\n\n

The tiles<\/strong>, even smaller than a millimeter in size, are obtained by spinning and cutting a glassy compound<\/strong>, or enamel, which constitutes the raw material, usually supplied by the famous Orsoni furnace in Venice, and then each image is composed by hand and inserted on 18K gold bases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many Collections<\/strong> proposed by Le Sibille starting from the Micromosaic, to the Giants with colored stones, Lilliput, a fashion interpretation of the jewel and Lumina, a larger and simplified micromosaic.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Secret<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a testimony to this Roman tradition, the most important collection of micromosaics in the world has been set up in the Sala Paolina of the Lower Galleries of the Vatican Museums, a collection that belonged to Domenico Petochi and acquired in the early 1990s thanks to the then director Carlo Pietrangeli.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n
